Education Consortium, LLC ("EdC") and the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics

New York, NY, October 18, 2011:  We were pleased to once again provide input to the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics at their "Hispanic Community Action Summit" held at Baruch College, New York City.  Local Hispanic Leaders or "Delegates" were provided the opportunity to voice important issues facing our country's hispanic population.

EdC's Chief Education Officer, Rosa A. Delgado Ed.D., discussed matters facing educators of English Language Learners (ELLs) and the tremendous need to attract highly qualified ELL teachers to address the specialized instructional needs of this growing ELL population.

During her on camera interview by WABC News, Dr. Rosa A. Delgado also spoke about the need to ensure federal and/or state funding that would support and  provide high quality professional development for all teachers of ELLs, targeted specifically for Bilingual, ESL and Content Area teachers of ELLs. She also commented that the growing ELL population throughout the United States has created an ominous challenge for public schools, given that they are faced with the task of educating and preparing ELL students for the 21st century.

The White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics is a multi-agency working group within the Department of Education charged with strengthening the nation's capacity to provide high quality education while increasing opportunities for Hispanic American participation in federal education programs. In addition, the Initiative serves as a resource for information related to closing the educational achievement gap for Hispanic Americans. Finally, the Initiative provides staffing to support and coordinate the mission of a President's Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for Hispanics.
